Teenage Wasteland
People, like the main character in this story, kind of get on my nerves. The main character is lazy and disruptive in class. I always figure, you're in school so why not do well and get it over with. There is no sense in doing terrible and taking the class over again next year. Donny's parents seemed concerend for him, but he doesn't let that bother him at all. He doesn't want help. That also angers me. If you are struggling, at least be man enough to say that you need help. I think that he is being cowardly and doesn't want to apply himself. I would do exactly as his parents did. The only thing that I would do differently is pull him out of the tutoring. Obviously the tutoring is not working at all. Why prolong the aggony? They are waisting their money and their son's time. That tutor is kind of a shady character. He seems more like a cult leader than a tutor. Filling these kids' heads with wild ideas, it just doesn't seem right. He makes feel like they are doing nothing wrong. I'll admit, he does seem like a fun guy to hang around. He listens to loud rock music with the kids. His house is a cool hangout spot for all of them. This all seems fun and harmless, but I think that it goes deeper than this. Donny's parents are the ones that finally push him to leave at the end of the story, but I don't think that it was justified at all. They only wanted what was best for him. I think that he went back to his tutor's house. I believe that the tutor did run some type of cult or something like that.

I agree 100% with you. People like that are annoying. If he needed help, he should of asked instead of letting his parents get involved. If they want to help out it's alright, because that is what parents are supposed to do, but in my personal opinion, having your parents get involved is quite embarassing. He should have been mature enough to handle the situation on his own. I was happy that they made him go to that tutor, but the tutor place kind of freaked me out. It just seemed odd that he was letting all of those kids go there to hand out and play loud music. I thought this was rude on his part, because Donnie was trying to learn while everything was going on around him. In the end I am glad his parents force him to leave. I also agree with you saying you thought he went back. I feel the same way.
Ha, I agree with both you and Sara. The main character of this story absolutely got what he had coming to him. It was all about him and his own little perfect world. If he was happy, everyone was happy. When he wasn't happy, though, no one could be happy. Likewise, I don't think the tutor was any better. He seemed to support the boy's attitude and actions instead of trying to help him change. I don't think it was the parents' fault Donny left. He acted immaturely, and tried to take the easy way out.
I agree with you Cody. I hate characters like Donny. They could do good in school if they wanted to. They don't need a tutor, what they need is a drill sergeant to put them into order and make them do their work. I just feel bad for his parents because they are trying so hard but it is getting them nowhere. It should have never got to the point where his parents got involved. He should know that if your grades start to fall you need to work harder to bring them up.
