I compared him to Jesus too, with the whole him sacrificing himself thing. I too noticed sex taking a huge part of this novel. Mike mentions something about how humans brains work during sex. This even intrigues him. I didn't really like the book, but only because I don't have the greatest imagination. The plot was good thought, the end was definitely unexpected. What did you think of the book?
I thought hippy was the perfect word for it. It was seriously the exact word I thought of when the book mentioned his church. In the beginning it was mentioned that the Old ones always took a very long time to make decisions, but I didn't expect that to be foreshadowing anything. I am worried that now Mike can make things disappear without anything being wrong, that he might do something bad with his powers. This seems to happen in most stories.
To be honest, it could represent a lot of different themes. Two of these are love and hate. Maybe it could even represent just what Mike thinks. Fear, science, philosophy, religion, love, and hate are all things that Mike has to pick up living on Earth. I guess I would kind of compare him to Hellen Keller. They both have overcome so much just to understand basic concepts. What did you make it out to be? (Theme wise)
I thought maybe because it was his first religion he ever heard. I thought that Mike also wouldn't really like Ben. But seeing that Ben was Mike's second choice to take care of his finances, he must trust him. The General also kind of switched sides to be with Jubal, Jill, and Mike. Jubal kind of bargained with him to make it that way thought.
I'm not sure why only Ben disappeared. I did think it was funny though how all of the girls thought that Mike was such an amazing kisser. When Ben came back though, I think he was a little bit jealous of Mike. I always knew he had a thing for Jill, but I never thought he would propose. That was kind of random. I thought that this might turn into something bad by the end of the book.
I think the whole "wasting food" thing was just something to help Mike understand better. The whole eating him thing freaked me out also. We were on the same boat as Duke on that one. I thought it was weird how they had "fair witnesses' everywhere to watch over everything. In present day, there is no way this would be able to happen, in my opinion anyway. I think that no matter what, people always choose sides somehow. Jubal kind of took Ben's place in the story now that Ben has disappeared. I thought that maybe Ben and Jill might have had a fling if this wouldn't have happened. The whole water-brother thing is still a little questionable for me too.
Well yea, she definitely was courageous, but she dug herself a huge hole. Taking him out of that hospital, away from Douglas, could have saved Smith's life. If she didn't do this, Smith would have either been taken advantage of or killed. What did you think of how he could make people disappear? I know he is from Mars and everything, but he is still human. That is like raising a dog, it isn't human, therefore it can't talk or do other human like things. I thought it was funny how curious Smith was about females though.

Personally, I didn't understand why Smith wasn't supposed to see females. I know it would confuse him and everything, but still, it is Earth, everything will confuse him. Some of Smith's rituals are shown for once. "Water-Sharing" was a big deal to him. His culture seems to really praise water. Do you think it is because there probably is very little water on Mars? How about how much Smith inherited! He got so much money, and he got the entire planet of Mars! Too bad he doesn't even understand everything that is happening to him to reek the benefits.

In the beginning of the story there is a mission to Mars, which nobody returns from. Then, a while after that, while world war three is going on, there is another mission to Mars. This time someone else is brought back. Valentine Michael Smith, the child of two of the members of the first mission is the person brought back. He has a lot of troubles getting accustomed to Earth. He is a human, but having grown up on Mars, he thinks he is a martion. The question I had had to do with the war going on. It made me think about wars going on today. I wonder who was involved in this war and why?
