I thought maybe because it was his first religion he ever heard. I thought that Mike also wouldn't really like Ben. But seeing that Ben was Mike's second choice to take care of his finances, he must trust him. The General also kind of switched sides to be with Jubal, Jill, and Mike. Jubal kind of bargained with him to make it that way thought.

At first, I strongly disliked the Secretary because he tried to take advantage of Mike and his inheritance. But later on, he did not bother me as much. After the conference, Mahmoud talks about "grok". This, to me, is certainly the most confusing aspect of the novel. The word has so many different meanings. From "to drink" to "philosophy". It took me forever to grasp the concept because it was used to frequently in the beginning of the novel and it never elaborated on the meaning until later. Why is it considered so important in the Martian language? How do you think it pertained to the story, as in themes or events?
